Belt Axe

This weapon, an American belt axe (sometimes called a tomahawk) from around 1775, was part of the required equipage of the Virginia militia at the time of the Battle of Great Bridge. The head of the axe is made of forged iron, mounted on a burl wood handle. The handle has a suspension hole for easier storage. This axe is part of the collection of the Jamestown-Yorktown foundation.
