Bartholomew Map of Richmond

This 1963 map, held in the Harland Bartholomew & Associates’ archives at Virginia Commonwealth University, is one of the maps used to propose and plan urban renewal projects in Richmond. In 1966 developers used this map to propose the Washington Park Conservation Project, highlighted in green. The map also shows four other completed or in-progress urban redevelopment project areas in blue, including the Carver Redevelopment project, the 17th Street Redevelopment Project, the Randolph Conservation Project, and the Fulton General Neighborhood Renewal Program Area. The planners highlighted in yellow areas they identified as “Blighted, Deteriorated, or Deteriorating Areas in Vicinity of [the Washington Park] Project Area.”
