The Great Fire of London, with Ludgate and Old St. Paul’s
Flames shoot out of Ludgate, the westernmost gate in the fortifications that protected London, during the Great Fire of London in 1666. Old Saint Paul's Cathedral, completed in the fourteenth century, can be seen burning in the distance. Both the gate and the cathedral were destroyed in the conflagration. This painting was made around 1670 by an unknown British artist.
