The Treaty of Lochaber (October 18, 1770)

The Treaty of Lochaber, signed October 18, 1770, adjusted the boundary line between Virginia and Cherokee Nation territory that had been agreed in the 1768 Treaty of Hard Labor. The Cherokee ceded hundreds of thousands of acres of land to Virginia in the new treaty.

The Treaty of Hard Labor, signed on October 14, 1768, confirmed the southern segment of a boundary line between the British colonies and the Cherokee Nation. The two sides continued to renegotiate the boundary, shifting it farther west in the 1770 Treaty of Lochaber.
