William Christian’s will, dated March 13, 1786, shows the wealth he passed to his family after he died in a battle against Native people on April 9, 1786. Christian bequeathed his Beargrass Creek estate and ten of the people he enslaved to his wife, Annie Henry Christian. His will also lists the land and thirty-seven enslaved people to be distributed among other family members. Annie Henry Christian took on a leading role in the family’s business affairs after her husband’s death.
