The Suffolk Resolves, published in this supplement to the Massachusetts-Gazette on September 15, 1774, were written and approved by representatives from Boston and other towns in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. The representatives gathered after Parliament enacted a series of retaliatory laws in response to the Boston Tea Party. The document calls for a boycott of British goods and encourages colonists to refuse to pay taxes or comply with the Boston Port Act that closed Boston Harbor. The First Continental Congress in Philadelphia endorsed the Suffolk Resolves on September 17, 1774, as its first official act.
