“The Southern Problem and its Solution” (1893)

Lewis Harvie Blair wrote an address on “The Southern Problem and its Solution” delivered for him to the African Congress held in Chicago in 1893. The address was published the same year in the reform journal Our Day: a Record and Review of Current Reform. In the address, Blair calls for the better treatment and legal protection of African Americans in the South, and argues that improving the situation of African Americans is essential to bringing economic prosperity to the South.
