In this letter, dated September 15, 1754, John Robinson informs George Washington that he had won the approbation of the lieutenant governor for his leadership during the French and Indian War, despite the fact that he was forced to surrender at Fort Necessity. His men also received official praise from the House of Burgesses “for their late gallant and brave Behaviour in the Defense of their Country.”
