In this excerpt from his diary, dated February 28–March 7, 1865, John B. Minor describes the Union occupation of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia at the end of the American Civil War (1861–1865). Minor, a graduate of the University of Virginia, taught law there from 1845 until 1895.
