“Virginia Needs to Create 400,000 Jobs in Decade” (June 12, 1962)

Published in the Danville Register on June 12, 1962, this article reports that Richard C. Holmquist, executive director of the State Highway Users Association, argued that improving Virginia’s education system was necessary to attract new industry—and new jobs—to the Commonwealth. In 1961, the Virginia Industrialization Group chose Richard Holmquist as its inaugural executive director to lead the group’s lobbying efforts to develop of a statewide system of technical education.
