Allen Dulles

This photograph shows Allen Dulles, a lawyer and the first civilian director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), as he looked around 1930. During World War II Dulles served in the Office of Strategic Services, a precursor to the CIA. In 1953 President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed him director of the CIA, a position which he held until 1961. He advocated for the construction of a CIA headquarters, which was eventually completed in 1961.
