Abraham Buford’s Signature

This is Continental Army officer Abraham Buford’s signature as it appears on a letter he wrote to Thomas Jefferson, at that time the governor of Virginia, on March 20, 1781. He wrote that Epaphroditus Rudder, a member of the Third Continental Light Dragoons, had impressed a stud horse named Romulous and exchanged him “with Col. George Gibson for a gelden and gets Two Hogsheads of tobacco to boot.”
