Robert E. Lee

General Robert E. Lee (1807–1870) was the commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War (1861–1865) and unquestionably the best-known military figure in the Confederacy. After the war, Lee served as president of Washington College in Lexington until his death in 1870.
