John Hartwell Cocke’s Membership in the Virginia State Agricultural Society

This nineteenth-century certificate confirms that John Hartwell Cocke, a prominent plantation owner and scientific farmer from Fluvanna County, was accorded a lifetime membership in the Virginia State Agricultural Society. Cocke helped found the Albemarle County branch of that organization in 1817.
