General Dwight D. Eisenhower Addresses Paratroopers before the Invasion of Normandy

General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during World War II, speaks with American paratroopers just before they board their planes on the evening of June 5, 1944, to begin the first assault in the invasion of Normandy. Eisenhower reportedly issued the following order to the men: "Full victory—nothing else." Eisenhower's success in World War II led to his subsequent national political career in the Republican Party. He served as the thirty-fourth president of the United States from 1953 until 1961.
