The Start of St. Paul’s

An unidentified group (probably students) poses outside Saint Paul Normal and Industrial School in Lawrenceville. James Solomon Russell founded the school for African Americans in 1888. This undated image was published in Our Church Industrial High Schools for Negroes (1925), a pamphlet produced "under the supervision of the American Church Institute for Negroes," an auxiliary of the National Council of the Protestant Episcopal Church.
