Boys Dormitory and Drill Ground

Male students perform calisthenics on the drill ground in front of the boys' dormitory at Saint Paul Normal and Industrial School in Lawrenceville. James Solomon Russell founded the school for African Americans in 1888. This image was published in Our Church Industrial High Schools for Negroes (1925), a pamphlet produced "under the supervision of the American Church Institute for Negroes," an auxiliary of the National Council of the Protestant Episcopal Church.
