Colton’s Virginia
This hand-colored map of Virginia created by J. H. Colton & Company in 1855 includes geographic features, counties, towns, railroads, and canals. A key at right center indicates the location of the transportation infrastructure. Inset maps at top provide a more detailed view of the Richmond and Norfolk areas. Johnson & Browning, a company in New York City that specialized in atlases, published this map in 1860.
