Rebel pickets dead, in Fredericksburg

On December 11, 1862, as Union troops attempted to build pontoon bridges across the Rappahannock River, they were harassed by Confederate fire from in and around the town of Fredericksburg. Among the Confederate dead are those shown in this drawing by Alfred R. Waud. The pontoon boats can be seen in the background.
