The Santa Maria at anchor
The Santa Maria at anchor, painted by Andries van Eertvelt about 1628, depicts the flagship of Christopher Columbus on the first of four voyages he took to North America. A native of Flanders, or the Dutch-speaking part of present-day Belgium, van Eertvelt (1590–1652) lived in Columbus's hometown of Genoa from 1628 until 1630.
