William Lloyd Garrison

William Lloyd Garrison, editor of the northern abolitionist newspaper The Liberator, is the subject of this daguerreotype portrait made about 1850. The image was taken by Southworth & Hawes, a renowned photographic firm in Boston that specialized in daguerreotypes.
