Hiring Out Enslaved Workers
In this February 7, 1828, document, Gustavus Brown Alexander, a slaveholding landowner in King George County, agrees to pay $11.75 to George Bryan to hire Bryan's slave, "a negro man named Thornton," for a set period of time.
