The 1919 Chicago Race Riot
At top, the police escort African Americans out of the Chicago neighborhood of Forty-eighth Street and Wentworth Avenue for their safety during the race riots in the area between July 27 and August 2, 1919. At bottom, white policemen at their station house search African American men for weapons.
