Seal-die of the Muscovy Company

Engraved on this die, created in the mid-sixteenth century, is the seal of the Muscovy Company. A sailing ship beneath two Tudor roses and the English lion is at the center of the design. A phrase inscribed around the edge reads, in Latin, In Deo est refugium nostrum (In God is our refuge).The Muscovy Company was chartered in 1555 and had a monopoly on Anglo-Russian trade.
