Harriet Beecher Stowe

Harriet Beecher Stowe, the best-selling author of Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852), is the subject of this stipple engraving (a type of engraving that makes use of a pattern of dots) created about 1855. The image is based on an earlier oil painting by well-known English portraitist George Richmond.
