The title page for Narrative of the Life of Henry Box Brown, Written by Himself (1851), published in Manchester, England, notes that this is the first edition produced in Great Britain. An earlier book about Henry Brown's escape from slavery by having himself sent in a box from Richmond to Philadelphia was published in Boston in 1849. The epigraph on the title page reminds the reader to " …forget not the unhappy, / For, ah! their friends are few."
