John Sergeant Wise

John Sergeant Wise, a lawyer and a Virginia member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1883 to 1885, is the subject of this photographic portrait. Wise served in Congress as a member of the Readjuster Party. On the back of the print a handwritten inscription reads, "John S. Wise, 1846–13 / as a young lawyer."
