The North Star

The masthead of the North Star, published on June 2,1848, features, at far left, the names of the newspaper's editors, Frederick Douglass and Martin R. Delany. The abolitionist newspaper, based in Rochester, New York, also supported the nascent women's rights movement. Its motto read: "RIGHT IS OF NO SEX—TRUTH IS OF NO COLOR—GOD IS THE FATHER OF US ALL, AND ALL WE ARE BRETHREN."
