U.S. Christian Commission Envelope

A Civil War–era envelope provided by the U.S. Christian Commission contains a soldier's letter to Mrs. Kate Halloway of Pennsylvania—presumably a loved one from home. The envelope is imprinted with an image of a carrier pigeon and the tag line, "The U.S. Christian Commission sends this as the soldier's messenger to his home. Let it hasten to those who wait for tidings."
