Martin A. Martin Joins Staff of U.S. Attorney General Biddle

On May 31, 1943, Martin A. Martin of Danville is sworn in as a member of the staff of U.S. Attorney General Francis Biddle. Martin was the first African American to become a member of the Trial Bureau of the Department of Justice. Standing behind him, from left to right, are attorney Oliver W. Hill, of Richmond, and Frank Coleman, a special assistant to Biddle.
