Saint Philip’s Episcopal Church

A snapshot taken in February 1922 shows the exterior of Saint Philip's Episcopal Church in Richmond. African Americans founded the church in 1861, but the original structure was destoyed by fire under mysterious circumstances in 1865. The church was rebuilt in 1869 with the support of the Diocese of Virginia and the family of former Confederate general J. E. B. Stuart.
