Illustrated Sketch Book of Danville, Virginia; Its Manufactures and Commerce.
This is the title page of Edward Pollock's Illustrated Sketch Book of Danville, Virginia; Its Manufactures and Commerce (1885). The book promotes Danville as a center for business and blames the Danville Riot of November 3, 1883—which resulted in at least five deaths, four of them African Americans—on the politics of the Readjuster Party, which promoted governance by whites and blacks.
