District Assembly No. 84 Knights of Labor.

In a broadside issued in the spring of 1885, District Assembly No. 84, a Richmond branch of the Knights of Labor, urges fellow members of the national labor organization to boycott the products of "Messrs. Haxall, Crenshaw & Co. Manufacturers of flour, meal &c. in the City of Richmond." Haxall Mills had made an agreement with the Virginia State Penitentiary to use flour barrels made by its convicts, reducing the work of area coopers. District Assembly No. 84 represented white coopers and was joined in its boycott by District Assembly No. 92, which represented black coopers, along with other groups of the Knights of Labor. As a result, Haxall Mills canceled its agreement with the penitentiary.
