Jerry Falwell’s Funeral
A horse-drawn hearse carrying the body of fundamentalist Christian pastor Reverend Jerry Falwell approaches Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, on May 22, 2007. After Falwell died of cardiac arrest on May 15, his body lay in repose at Liberty University and at Thomas Road Baptist Church (both of which he had founded), allowing for thousands of the televangelist's followers to participate in a public viewing. His private burial service took place at Liberty University near the Carter Glass Mansion. After Falwell's death, his two sons succeeded him, with Jonathan Falwell becoming senior pastor at the Thomas Road Baptist Church and Jerry Falwell Jr. inheriting the position of Chancellor at Liberty University.
