John N. Dalton

Governor John N. Dalton is the subject of this 1982 painting by John Court. A successful lawyer, businessman, and farmer, Dalton was a member of the House of Delegates (1966–1972) and the Senate of Virginia (1972–1973) and served as lieutenant governor (1974–1978) and governor (1978–1982). He was the first Republican lieutenant governor of the twentieth century. This portrait is part of the State Art Collection of the Commonwealth.
