This is the title page of the the first volume of History of The Expedition Under the Command of Captains Lewis and Clark, to the Sources of the Missouri, Thence Across the Rocky Mountains and Down the River Columbia to the Pacific Ocean. Performed During the Years 1804–5–6. By order of the Government of the United States (1814), the official narrative of the expedition based on journals kept by Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and four other men. The two-volume narrative, published five years after the death of Meriwether Lewis, was edited by Nicholas Biddle and Paul Allen (though this title page credits only Allen).
