Edward Coles
An engraved portrait of Edward Coles, a lifelong opponent of slavery, serves as the frontispiece of the book by Elihu Benjamin Washburne titled Sketch of Edward Coles, Second Governor of Illinois, and of the Slavery Struggle of 1823–4. The 1882 engraving by Samual Sartain was based on an earlier painting by J. Henry Brown.
