Gunston Hall Exterior

This modern photograph shows Gunston Hall, the home of George Mason, a wealthy Virginia planter and lawmaker. The house is located in Fairfax County on the Potomac River and was completed in 1759. With its emphasis on perfect symmetry, the house is an example of Georgian architecture and was considered one of the finest homes in colonial America.
