Louis Isaac Jaffé Celebrating the Armistice
Future Pulitzer Prize winner, anti-lynching activist, and Norfolk Virginian-Pilot editor Louis Isaac Jaffé celebrates the 1918 Armistice, Is-sur-Tille village hotel, France. Jaffé is in the back row, third from the left, raising his glass. Jaffé volunteered for service immediately following America's entry into World War I, and stayed in Europe following the armistice as a captain in the American Red Cross and subsequent director of the Red Cross News Service's European Bureau.
