Winter Campaigning

This sketch by Alfred R. Waud was made near Falmouth, Virginia, on January 21, 1863, a month following the disastrous Union defeat at Fredericksburg, and depicts "the Army of the Potomac on the move." It also hints at the inclement weather that turned this new offensive into yet another disaster, what would come to be known as the Mud March.
