Edwin Alderman, photographed for the program distributed for his inauguration as president of the University of Virginia. In his inaugural address, Alderman announced four objectives for the university: a school of education, schools of business and engineering, a school of English writing, and a school embracing the studies of economics, political science, sociology, and history.
