Lewis Miller

Lewis Miller wears an elaborate tie in this daguerreotype portrait made in the mid-nineteenth century. A Pennsylvania-born carpenter, Miller created watercolor sketches and texts based on his extensive travels in Virginia. Among his watercolors are rare images of some of the enslaved people he encountered.
