Ku Klux Klan in Washington, D.C.

In this photograph taken in the 1920s, candidates for membership in the Ku Klux Klan, an extremist right-wing organization, kneel in front of white-robed Klansmen in a ceremony that took place a short distance from the U.S. Capitol. The Klan received fifty candidates for membership that night.
