Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in Skyland

The Civilian Conservation Corps was a New Deal program designed to leverage the nation's young unemployed workforce and stimulate the economy. The work centered on forest improvements, conservation of historical sites, and development of the state and federal park system. CCC camps like the one above, near Skyland along Skyline Drive, housed the workers that built the Blue Ridge Parkway and created the infrastructure to support Shenandoah National Park.
