John C. Breckinridge

John Cabell Breckinridge, the fourteenth vice president of the United States from 1857 to 1861, is the subject of this half-length portrait included in McClees' Gallery of Photographic Portraits of the Senators, Representatives & Delegates of the Thirty-fifth Congress (1859). During the Civil War the Kentucky politician became a major general and secretary of war of the Confederate States.
