Pre-Clovis Cores and Blade Flakes

This modern photograph depicts archaeological finds from the Cactus Hill site in Sussex County. Evidence from the site suggests a human presence in the area 18,000 to 20,000 years ago, the so-called pre-Clovis culture. At bottom are blade flakes, or sharp-edged stone fragments designed to serve as tools or blades. At top are samples of cores, the basic stone building blocks out of which blade flakes were fashoned.
