James Branch Cabell

Virginia-born author James Branch Cabell is pictured here in a photograph that accompanied a publication notice for his second novel, The Line of Love, in Harper's Weekly. Cabell, a prolific writer in multiple genres but best known for the scandal-ridden fantasy Jurgen: A Comedy of Justice, had published short stories in Harper's as early as 1902.
