Ladies’ Passport

A blank Confederate "ladies' passport," which authorized travel during the war, requires a physical description of the pass holder, including her age, height, and hair and eye color. Travel was restricted and "Subject to the discretion of the Military authorities." A woman had to name her destination, have the form signed by a military official, and then carry the completed form with her for possible inspection.
