Second Battle of Manassas

Union soldiers tend to the wounded as fighting rages during the Second Battle of Manassas, or Bull Run, in this sketch by Edwin Forbes. The artist, who was accompanying Union forces, wrote beneath the image: "Infantry fight on the left wing in Battle of Bull Run." On the lower right corner of the drawing, Forbes signed his initials and noted that he made the sketch at four o'clock in the afternoon on August 30, 1863. In fact, the artist, perhaps in haste, wrote the wrong date: the battle actually took place in 1862.
