A Display of the United States of America

President George Washington is celebrated as the indispensible man in the formation of the federal government and its ongoing success in this rare 1794 engraving titled A Display of the United States of America. A chain of state seals is linked to the Great Seal of the United States at top; at the center of the image is Washington, who is identified as "President of the United States of America. The Protector of his Country, and the Supporter of the rights of Mankind."  This engraving was printed and sold by Amos Doolittle of New Haven, Connecticut.
